MIKE HENDERSON is a pioneering African American artist, filmmaker and musician whose dynamic practice has spanned more than fifty years. Born and raised in Marshall, Missouri, Mike moved to the Bay Area to attend the San Francisco Art Institute in 1965.

Before retiring in 2012 Mike was an Art Professor at UC Davis for 43 years where he participated in the Funk Art Movement with fellow colleges, William T. Wiley, Robert Arneson, Roy DeForest to name a few.

Manetti Shrem Museum located at UC Davis currently has on display Henderson's first solo U.S. museum show in two decades -
Mike Henderson: Before the Fire, 1965-1985.
Many amazing pieces are on display at the museum and in Haines Gallery in
San Francisco after being restored having been all but lost in a fire that raged through Henderson's San Francisco art studio in 1985.

The Scarf Edition seen here is one of the special pieces based on original artwork that was saved and reclaimed from the fire.
